What a strange and unsettling year it has been!
I do not know if there is any such phrase, but I think of this year, as the “fallow year”.
In the Old Testament, Exodus 23: 10-11 it is written, “ … Six years thou shalt sow thy land….but the seventh year thou shalt let it rest and lie still, that the poor of thy people may eat…” (KJV)
We live in an age where profit and material gain drive our activities and we relentlessly exploit our own energies, others and our environment. Nothing would have induced us to slow down.
This pandemic has to an extent achieved what all the Climate Change Conferences, Agreements and Protocols never succeeded in achieving.
So, in spite of all the grief and misery, the environment has had time to recover and we as human beings have been forced to slow down, ponder, and consider what really matters in life.
